Scope of work

  • EOG Resources appointed Jeffrey W. Hibbard EVP and CFO effective Jan. 1, 2027, succeeding Ann D. Janssen.
  • Janssen elected to retire and will serve as an advisor during a transition period before retiring in 2027.
  • Hibbard joined EOG in August 2025 as SVP, finance, after more than 20 years at Morgan Stanley's Global Energy Group; Janssen has been with EOG and predecessors more than 30 years, CFO since January 2024.

EOG Resources Inc. has set Jan. 1, 2027 as the effective date for its next chief financial officer. The Houston-based independent has appointed Jeffrey W. Hibbard executive vice-president and CFO, succeeding Ann D. Janssen, who elected to retire.

Janssen will not leave the building immediately. She stays on as an advisor through a defined transition period before her retirement takes effect in 2027. That timeline gives Hibbard, currently senior vice-president, finance, roughly a year and a half of runway before he assumes the top finance job at one of the largest US shale producers.

The appointment marks a rapid rise for Hibbard within EOG's finance organization. He joined the company only in August 2025 as SVP, finance, and now moves up to the EVP-CFO designate role. His earlier career sits outside the operator side of the business: Hibbard spent more than 20 years at Morgan Stanley, most recently as a managing director in the firm's Global Energy Group. That background pairs capital-markets experience with upstream finance at a company that has built its strategy on disciplined capital returns and low-cost drilling programs.

Janssen leaves a long record at the company. She joined a predecessor company in 1995 and has worked at EOG and its predecessors for more than 30 years. She has held the EVP and CFO post since January 2024. Before that, she served in several finance and accounting leadership roles, including senior vice-president and chief accounting officer, giving her a full view of the controller function before she took the CFO seat.

The transition follows a familiar pattern for succession planning at large independents: name a successor well in advance, overlap the two executives, and keep the outgoing CFO available as an advisor. For EOG, continuity in the finance office matters as the company manages shareholder distributions, drilling program budgets, and commodity price cycles.

Hibbard's mandate will be defined by the numbers he inherits — capital plans, return-of-capital commitments, and cost structures across EOG's basins — and by how the company frames its next budget cycle once he formally takes over at the start of 2027.

The watch item: the Jan. 1, 2027 effective date, and how Janssen's advisory transition period shapes the handover of the 2027 capital budget process between now and her retirement later that year.
