Guyana Crude Exports Near 1 Million BPD Mark for First Time

Guyana's crude exports are on track to top 1 million bpd for the first time, per Brazil Energy Insight — a projection that still awaits verified cargo data.

Field notes

  1. Guyana crude exports projected to exceed 1 million bpd for the first time
  2. Projection reported by Brazil Energy Insight; no cargo data published yet
  3. Three FPSOs — Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, Prosperity — currently produce on the Stabroek Block
  4. Fourth FPSO, One Guyana, expected on station in 2026

Guyana's crude exports are on track to exceed 1 million barrels per day for the first time, according to Brazil Energy Insight — a milestone for a basin that produced nothing commercially before 2019. The caveat comes immediately: this is a projection, not a cargo count. Hard loading data has not been published yet.

The Stabroek Block (the 6.6-million-acre offshore licence operated by ExxonMobil) is the engine behind the number. Three floating production, storage and offloading vessels — Liza Destiny, Liza Unity and Prosperity — now pump from the Liza and Payara reservoirs. A fourth unit, One Guyana, is expected on station next year.

Why the threshold matters

One million bpd moves Guyana into the company of mid-tier OPEC producers. It also tightens competition in the Atlantic Basin crude market, where Guyana's light sweet grades already compete with West African and US Gulf Coast barrels.

There is a second read, and it is less flattering. Export volumes above 1 million bpd do not equal sustainable production capacity. FPSO ramp-ups (the planned climb to nameplate output after startup) often overshoot, then settle. Maintenance windows and weather can shave the figure quickly.

What we don't know yet

The report does not specify:

  • The exact month the threshold could be crossed
  • Whether the figure is a single-day peak or a monthly average
  • Which grades — Liza, Unity Gold or Payara — carry the increase

That distinction matters. A one-off spike makes headlines. A sustained monthly average above 1 million bpd changes fixture lists and refinery slates.

Context: a fast climb

Guyana went from first oil in December 2019 to roughly two-thirds of a million bpd within four years, according to previously reported company disclosures. Hitting 1 million bpd of exports would mark a near-doubling since 2023. Few basins in modern history have scaled this fast, and none without a single dry-hole year on the operator's tally.

Takeaway: the pace is real, but the specific 1-million claim still awaits verified cargo data.

The watch item

Watch the One Guyana FPSO hookup and the next ExxonMobil production disclosure. Confirmation of a sustained 1-million-bpd export run would likely land there first, not in a headline.
