Ukrainian forces have struck targets roughly 1,300 km inside Russian territory, hitting the oil refinery in Ufa and a missile-linked plant in Penza, according to a report by Kyiv Post.

The Ufa refinery sits at the heart of Russia's refining heartland in Bashkortostan, one of the country's largest fuel-producing clusters. The facility is a major supplier of gasoline and diesel to the domestic market. A strike reaching a complex at this distance marks a significant extension of Ukraine's demonstrated range against Russian energy infrastructure.

The second target, a plant in Penza linked to missile production, points to a dual-track targeting strategy: Kyiv continues to press attacks on both hydrocarbon processing capacity and defense-industrial sites deep in the Russian rear.

Ukraine has systematically targeted Russian refineries since early 2024, aiming to degrade fuel supply for Moscow's war machine and strain the refining sector's economics. Each successful long-range strike forces Russia to redistribute product, rely more heavily on exports from unaffected complexes, and divert air-defense assets to protect energy infrastructure spread across a vast landmass.

For refiners and product traders, the operational significance is straightforward. Ufa is far from the border regions where most previous strikes landed. If damage at the complex is confirmed and sustained, it would extend the zone of risk for Russian refining well beyond the western facilities — in Ryazan, Voronezh, and Krasnodar territory — that have absorbed the bulk of attacks to date.

Kyiv Post's report did not immediately specify the extent of damage at either site, the units affected, or any impact on throughput. Russian authorities have routinely downplayed or denied damage at struck energy facilities in previous incidents, while satellite imagery and outage data have often told a different story in the days that followed.
