WellSense has signed a strategic partnership with Precise Downhole Solutions, one of Canada's leading fibre optic well surveillance specialists, to expand deployment of its Fli bare fibre technology across Canadian basins.

The deal pairs Precise's distributed fibre optic surveillance and data analysis experience with WellSense's lightweight, rigless bare fibre system. The target market: Canadian operators facing complex well integrity diagnostics across diverse asset portfolios.

Precise has already completed its first Fli deployments in Alberta. The operations successfully identified annular well leaks associated with surface casing vent flow, using Fli's compact deployment approach and acoustic and temperature sensing. Precise's in-house analysts interpreted the data and delivered answers rapidly to the customer.

What does the partnership change for Canadian operators?

The commercial logic rests on access and speed. WellSense's partner network is designed to make the Fli technology easier to access, faster to deploy and simpler to adopt, supported by regional specialists who understand local wells, operating environments, existing workflows and regulations.

"Precise Downhole Solutions is one of Canada's most experienced fibre-optic surveillance providers, making them an ideal partner," said Paul Lynch, Commercial Director at WellSense.

Lynch pointed to adoption pace as the standout result so far. "What has been particularly encouraging is the speed with which the brilliant team at Precise has adopted and deployed Fli within their existing service offering. This partnership demonstrates once again how easily Fli can be integrated into established workflows to help customers access critical integrity data faster," he said.

For operators, the economics matter as much as the diagnostics. Fibre-based distributed sensing can reach wells where conventional intervention methods carry heavy operational or cost barriers.

"As an established provider of fibre-optic surveillance and reservoir monitoring solutions, we recognised immediately how Fli could strengthen our existing offering," said Dan Keough, VP Sales at Precise Downhole Solutions.

Keough framed the value proposition in operational terms: "The technology allows us to deploy distributed sensing in wells where conventional intervention methods can be operationally challenging or economically prohibitive. Combined with our expertise, Fli gives Canadian operators an efficient, practical and scalable approach to diagnosing complex integrity issues. We look forward to building on recent success and expanding access to this technology throughout Canada."

Why rigless fibre matters for integrity work

The technical hook is Fli's format. The system runs bare fibre — lightweight and deployed without a rig — carrying acoustic and temperature sensing along the wellbore. That sensitivity is what allowed the Alberta deployments to pinpoint annular leak paths behind casing tied to surface casing vent flow, a chronic integrity and regulatory issue in mature Western Canadian wells.

Precise's analysts then handle interpretation, turning raw distributed sensing data into leak-specific answers for the customer.

The watch item: further Fli campaign rollouts beyond Alberta as Precise scales the service across Canada, and whether operators adopt rigless fibre diagnostics as a standard screen for annular leakage and surface casing vent flow cases.
