BOMESC Lands SBM Offshore FPSO Contract Worth Up to $295 Million

BOMESC secures an SBM Offshore contract worth up to $295 million for FPSO work serving South America, extending the Chinese fabricator's role in the region's floater build-out.

Field notes

  1. BOMESC secured a contract from SBM Offshore worth up to $295 million
  2. The work supports an FPSO destined for South America
  3. Project scope, schedule and specific floater have not been disclosed

BOMESC has secured a contract from SBM Offshore covering work on a floating production, storage and offloading vessel destined for South America, with a value of up to $295 million.

The award puts the Chinese offshore engineering and fabrication specialist inside SBM Offshore's supply chain for another FPSO program in the region. SBM Offshore, the Netherlands-based floater specialist, builds and leases FPSOs to operators across Brazil, Guyana, West Africa and the US Gulf, and routinely splits module fabrication and integration work among Asian yards.

The contract value of up to $295 million ranks the award among the mid-sized fabrication packages that SBM Offshore typically awards for hull topside modules, utility systems or integration support on its fast-track build schedule.

For BOMESC, the order extends a track record in floater construction that has made the Tianjin-based contractor a recurring supplier to the major FPSO leasing companies. The company's order book has benefited in recent years as operators in South American basins — above all Brazil's pre-salt province and Guyana's Stabroek block — have driven the largest concentration of FPSO awards anywhere in the world.

SBM Offshore has not disclosed which project the contract covers, the scope of the work packages, or the delivery schedule. The company routinely confirms detailed scope allocations at quarterly results presentations.

The watch item: SBM Offshore's next fleet status update, where the market will look for confirmation of the project, yard allocation and delivery window tied to the BOMESC package.
