Drones hit Gazprom's 10-million-tonne Salavat refinery complex in Bashkortostan
Drones struck Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat, a 10-million-tonne-per-year refining complex in Bashkortostan; OSINT sources report a fire near the plant, damage unconfirmed.
Field notes
- Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat can process up to 10 million metric tons of hydrocarbon feedstock per year.
- The ELOU-AVT-6 primary refining unit was damaged in a drone attack on September 24, 2025.
- After a July 14, 2026 attack, OSINT sources reported a complete halt in oil processing at the refinery.
- Salavat sits about 1,400 km from the Ukraine border; the fire broke out a few kilometers from the city.
- The complex, part of Gazprom, produces more than 150 product types including gasoline, diesel, polyethylene and ammonia.
Drones struck Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat, one of Russia's largest oil refining and petrochemical complexes, with a fire breaking out in the area around the facility in Bashkortostan, OSINT sources report. The complex can process up to 10 million metric tons of hydrocarbon feedstock per year.
The site sits in the city of Salavat, roughly 1,400 km from the border with Ukraine. Social media posts, citing photos and videos submitted by readers, indicate the fire started a few kilometers from the city. Analysis of the published footage places the blaze near the refinery itself.
The exact location of the fire and the extent of any damage have not yet been determined. No company statement on throughput impact was available at the time of reporting.
What does the Salavat complex process?
Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat, part of the Gazprom group, is one of the major facilities in Bashkortostan's refining and petrochemical industry. The plant produces more than 150 product types, including:
- automotive gasoline;
- diesel fuel;
- fuel oil;
- bitumen;
- polyethylene;
- styrene;
- ammonia.
The loss of even part of that slate would matter for Russian domestic fuel supply and petrochemical feedstock markets, but operators have not confirmed any unit outages from the latest strike.
Is this the first strike on the plant?
No. The complex has a documented strike history stretching back more than a year:
- September 24, 2025 — an attack damaged the ELOU-AVT-6 primary refining unit (CDU/VDU capacity).
- July 14, 2026 — a drone attack triggered a fire at the refinery; according to OSINT sources, oil processing came to a complete halt afterward.
- October 2026 — the current strike, with the fire's precise location and operational impact still unverified.
The July 2026 incident marks the most severe precedent: a reported full stoppage of crude processing at a site rated for 10 million tpy of feedstock.
What happens next?
For now, information on the consequences of the new attack — the nature of the damage and the fire's effect on plant operations — has not been established. Attribution for the strike and any damage assessment will depend on satellite imagery and operator disclosure.
Elsewhere in Russia, the strike campaign continued against energy infrastructure: on October 7, several settlements in Voronezh Oblast lost power following a drone attack.
The watch item is whether Salavat's primary units — including the previously damaged ELOU-AVT-6 — sustained new hits, and how quickly Gazprom confirms or denies a throughput reduction at the 10-million-tonne complex.
