Technip Energies has secured engineering and technology contracts from Petkim, the Turkish petrochemical producer, for the development of a proposed integrated petrochemical complex in Türkiye.

The awards, announced via a release carried by Taiwan News, cover two distinct workscopes: engineering services and the supply of process technology from the French contractor's licensor portfolio. Technip Energies did not disclose contract values.

The project remains at the development stage. Petkim has described the complex as a proposal rather than a sanctioned scheme, and neither company has published a capacity configuration, an investment figure, or a final investment decision timeline in the announcement. The contracts position Technip Energies as a front-end and technology partner ahead of any FID, a familiar arrangement in which an operator locks in licensor packages and engineering definition before committing capital.

For Petkim, the awards mark the most concrete step yet in a push to expand Türkiye's domestic petrochemicals base. The company operates Türkiye's only steam cracker complex, at Aliağa on the Aegean coast in İzmir province, a site it shares with the SOCAR-anchored STAR refinery. The announcement did not specify whether the proposed integrated complex would be built at Aliağa or at another location.

An integrated configuration, if sanctioned, would link petrochemical units with refining or upstream feed supply — a structure Petkim's parent SOCAR has pursued at the Aliağa petro-park, where refinery and petrochemical assets share feedstock and utility infrastructure. Türkiye imports a large share of its petrochemical demand, a gap the proposed complex would target.

Technip Energies brings both sides of the workscope in-house: engineering capacity built on gas processing, LNG and downstream projects worldwide, and a technology portfolio spanning steam cracking, hydrogen, methanol and polymers licensed through its legacy Technip and Stone & Webster process books. The company routinely books such dual awards as low-booked-value contract wins that can convert into larger engineering, procurement and construction mandates if projects reach sanction.

The announcement gives no timeline for front-end engineering, no startup target and no indication of which licensed process technologies Petkim has selected for the study phase.
