MODEC FPSO Hull Sails for China Yard Ahead of Brazil Integration
MODEC's FPSO hull destined for Brazilian waters is sailing to China, where topsides integration will prepare the floating production unit for deployment offshore Brazil.
Field notes
- MODEC's Brazil-bound FPSO hull has departed for China
- Topsides integration work will be carried out at a Chinese yard
- MODEC is a Tokyo-based floating production specialist with an established FPSO track record in Brazil

The hull of a MODEC-built floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel destined for Brazilian waters has departed on its voyage to China, where integration work will be carried out at a shipyard yard there.
MODEC, the Tokyo-headquartered floating production specialist, confirmed that the hull is now en route to China. Once it arrives, the unit will undergo topsides integration — the phase in which production modules, utility systems and living quarters are married to the vessel's hull ahead of commissioning.
The voyage marks a visible milestone in a construction sequence that offshore operators know well: hull fabrication, typically performed in Korea or China, followed by a tow to an integration yard, then months of module installation, hook-up and commissioning before the FPSO is ready for a field campaign.
The destination is Brazil, where MODEC has built a substantial track record supplying FPSOs for deepwater projects in the pre-salt and other offshore basins. Brazilian operators, led by Petrobras and its international partners, have repeatedly turned to the company for converted and newbuild floating production units to serve fields tied back to subsea infrastructure.
Integration work in China is a standard step in MODEC's delivery model. Chinese yards have handled topsides integration for a string of the company's FPSO programs, offering capacity and cost structures that have made them a fixture in the global floating production supply chain.
For now, the operational watch items are straightforward: the hull's arrival at the Chinese integration yard, the pace of module mating, and the eventual departure of the completed FPSO for Brazil. Offshore Energy reported the departure; MODEC has not yet published a detailed integration schedule for the unit in the material available.
The FPSO will join Brazil's expanding fleet of floating production units once work is complete — a fleet that continues to absorb a large share of global FPSO orders as operators sanction new deepwater capacity.
